Устройство, которое с помощью датчиков на теле человека регистрирует изменения в его организме (частота дыхания, давление, сердечный ритм, интенсивность потовыделения и т.д.). Дает некоторую возможность для определения правдивости испытуемого, поскольку возникающее при ложных ответах психологическое напряжение фиксируется детектором. Прибор создан в 1921 Дж. Ларсоном [Larson, John]. Значительные усовершенствования внесены Л. Килером [Keeler, Leonarde] (1926) и Дж. Рейдом [Reid, John E.] (1945). Применяется, в основном, при приеме на работу в государственные учреждения и на особо важных допросах. Закон запрещает принуждать кого-либо проходить тест на детекторе лжи.
